Here's the next chapter (sorry it took so long :O)
Chapter 4- Domino
I looked away from the wolves I was talking to over at Paddfoot as he walked off on his own. I didn't like the fact that he was going off by himself. With unknown wolves around and with this being an unfamilier territory I got up and padded after him. I stopped on a slope and looked down to see him sitting next to a stream, staring at the water. I lifted my paw to take a step forward towards him but froze as a voice sounded behind me.
"Domino?" It called my name. I sighed, I looked behind me to see a white female wolf standing a few feet away. She tilted her head and took a step towards me. "You shouldn't be going off on your own.." she said pointing her muzzle in the direction I was about to go off to. "It's dangerous and the pack can't afford for you to get hurt or lost right now."
I grumbled.
Why must females always be so worrying.. I thought grimly. I glanced back at where Paddfoot had been but he was long gone, with no trace of him left. I sighed and turned around to face the she-wolf as she walked nimbly up to me. "Angel.. I was just going to uh.." I paniced, i didn't want her to know about Paddfoot being gone, she might tell Sparrow or Ralf and it could lead to trouble for Paddfoot. I thought of an excuse quickly. "thought I heard some prey nearby. And I was going to go investigate... though I bet it's gone by now.." I said, sorta holding my breath at the end wondering if she would buy it.
"Hmm..." she said quietly, I could feel her eyes staring into mine, looking to see if what I said was true. Her gaze became to much for me, resulting in me closing my eyes. When I heard her sigh I opened them cautiously. "Well I guess your right.. it would be long gone." She flicked her tail, whether because she was nervous or had doubts on hwat I said I don't know. "But we should stay with the pack.. come on." She walked up next to my side and nudged me back towards the pack.
.....
As the sun rose in the sky it's golden rays shown down on my fur, the warmth woke me and I opened my tired, sleepy eyes. I looked around the small little clearing at my pack mates, who were are slumbering. That is all except for Ralf. I yawned and carefully got up, so to not disturb Angel; and made my way over to Ralf.
The alpha male was sitting on a boulder which gave him a good view of the area around us and of the pack. I leapt up onto the rock and sat down beside him. Ralf's ear where perked and his form was tense. Curious I couldn't help but ask. "What's wrong Ralf?.. Did something happen?" I lowered my ears when he looked at me. His expression was mized with anger and intensity.
He sighed and looked at the sun on the horizon. "Last night enemy wolves were spotted a little ways from here.. and they weren't very friendly.."
I tilted my head. "Wait.. you weren on watch all of last night.. how'd you know about them?" It puzzled me though I felt dumb asking the question.
Ralf looked at me. "Sparrow found them and told me.. she said they were vicious.. she tried to make a conversation but they refused.." Ralf looked down at over at Sparrow who was curled up fast asleep with Tamaska. It was quiet for several minutes before Ralf looked back at me. "I will do whatever it takes to protect this pack and right now.. it means war." Ralf jumped off the rock and walked over to Sparrow, prodding her with a paw to wake her up. Domino sighed and went to help Ralf wake the pack up.
.....
By mid afternoon the pack was fully awake and on the move in search of a den. We needed protection and sleeping in the open, even with the shelter of undergrowth and trees, wasn't safe enough. Ralf lead the way through a field of tall grass. There was a thick layer of wet and sticky mud across the whole thing, making walking through the stuff unbaribly annoying and a pain. I looked at the wolves ahead of me.
Ralf went on with his ears perked, he hardly seemed to acknowledge the mud the grabbed onto his paws.
How can he focus with all this mud sticking to his paws? I thought grumbily as I walked through the stuff. Sparrow walked behind Ralf, she seemed to be trying her best to ignore the uncomfortable feeling but it was obvious that it was really bugging her. Tamaska followed his parents, joyfully trotting through the mud as if it were clean fresh water. The mud didn't seem to bother him, which sorta irritated me. I looked behind me at the other members. Duskfang was bringing up the rear, watching the mud pull apart as he lifted his paws off the ground. Paddfoot walked in front of him, he was deep in thought, though what about i had no clue.
I sighed with relief as we finally walked out of the muddy field. Everyone seemed to be glad that is except for Ralf and Tamaska. Ralf seemed to intent onfinding a den and Tamaska seemed to be missing the mud.
.....
After a few hours more the pack found a suitible den. I followed every one inside and we all plopped down to rest. I looked over at Ralf and Sparrow how where talking quietly to themselvees by the den's entrance. He strained my ears to listen to their conversation.
"I'll go and search the area nearby for any enemies, all be back before you know it don't worry." Ralf said. I could tell by his tone he was trying to get out of the den as fast as he could, trying to get Sparrow off his case.
"Well yeah but what if they capture you or your outnumbered in a fight. Let someone go with you.." Sparrow said, obviously worried.
They continued for a few more minutes before Ralf finally left on his own. Sparrow rolled her eyes as he ran off and looked out at the woods surounding the den.
I sighed closed my eyes and slowly drifted to sleep.
.....
I woke as I heard the sound of loud foot prints nearing the den. The whole pack stood up tense, as they saw Ralf enter the den, his fur brislting. "An enemy pack is coming.." He muttered, growling.
